Challenge of the Week: Cloven Casting

I want to ramp to cloven casting then start casting a bunch of cascade spells with my build!

Gatherer Card Rulings:
5/1/2009: Abilities that trigger when a spell is cast (such as this ability or cascade) won't trigger when you create a copy this way

4 Bituminous Blast
4 Blightning
3 Cruel Ultimatum
4 Grixis Charm
3 Slave of Bolas
4 Swerve
4 Terminate
4 Thought Hemorrhage
4 Pyromancer Ascension
3 Clover Casting
2 Chandra Ablaze

hmmm, Im at 39 cards, need to cut 3, the obvious choice is Chandra, but I started building this with Chandra specifically in mind (blow chandra up and cast nearly any card in the deck from the yard. anything chandra can cast from the yard cloven casting can copy.)

2 cloven casting
3 Bituminous blast
3 Deny reality
3 Blightning
3 Exploding borders
3 Grixis charm
3 Naya Charm
3 Jund Charm
3 Esper Charm
3 Bant Charm
3 Slave of bolas
3 Thought hemorrhage

here is where I started. I realized multi-colored cards have limited removal--blast, terminate, and slave. Each of the charms have a kind of removal, esper being the least generally useful but perhaps the best overall due to the draw/discard ability. I am relying on exploding borders, slave, blightning and thought hemorrhage damage to become lethal. I'm pretty sure this deck would lose to anything 9 out of 10 times. I'm still working on it.

I haven't given up on cloven casting as viable in standard, but not being able to copy my cascade effects means after i combo i still probably lose.

i may still have an ace up my sleeve, i'll post again later tonight or tomorrow evening.

I like chandra ablaze. CU is a more proven and overall better win-con than exploding borders, too.

With my ace up my sleeve I'll probably end up in esper or grixis, so i'll probably take out borders. if i end up in grixis i'll have to consider chandra.

you know, the more i think about the cascade mechanic with this bad spell... the more i like it... the original spell (bituminous Blast)gets played, gets copied and a grixis charm comes off of the cascade. you can copy the charm by paying 1.

if your cascade spells are worth copying then you can ply them for the multi copy options.

The more I think about it and the harder I try the less I like this card. I just keep coming back to this is the bad version of pyromancer's ascension. Cloven Casting is awesome, for sure. If you happen to be alive long enough to use it, and you have enough multi-colored spells in your deck to abuse it, then your opponent is having a bad day. But I think I just want to slowly back away from this, wash my hands, and pretend that it never happened.

Pulse was my ace, and it is playable, even in BUR, with the ruptured spire. Even pulse doesn't give you enough good cards to live long enough to abuse cloven casting.

I'd love it if someone would prove me wrong. I don't see it happening, though. It isn't playable in standard in BUR because you need mass removal. Perhaps with Earthquake, some slave of bolas for fliers, and running a sphinx of jwar isle as a late-game blocker//early game discard target from your opponent's blightning, or perhaps if you played 5c or heavy white so you can play the good mass removal double-white spells. But I just dont see it. I give up with cloven casting.

Perhaps in extended or legacy you could ramp and then lightning helix and other cools stuff your opponent to death?
